The namaz-e-janaza of BNP chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia will be held after Zuhr prayers on Wednesday at the South Plaza of the National Parliament building and the adjacent Manik Mia Avenue.
Following the funeral, she will be laid to rest beside her husband, martyred President and freedom fighter Ziaur Rahman.
Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul disclosed the decision after a special meeting of the Advisory Council on Tuesday afternoon.
He said books of condolence will be opened at Bangladesh missions abroad, while the government will provide all necessary assistance related to Begum Zia’s funeral and burial. The chief adviser also shared memories of Begum Zia during the meeting.
Begum Khaleda Zia, widely regarded as an uncompromising political leader, passed away at 6am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
The death of the country’s first female prime minister and longtime BNP chairperson has cast a pall of grief over the nation’s political landscape. Her passing marks the end of a significant era in Bangladesh’s politics.
A resolute figure in the struggle for democracy, national sovereignty and people’s rights, Begum Zia leaves behind a legacy as one of the most influential leaders in the country’s political history.
