Inquilab Mancha has warned that it will launch a movement to topple the government if the trial over the murder of Shahid Sharif Osman Hadi is not concluded within 30 working days.
The announcement was made by the organization’ Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber during a sit-in program at Shahbagh intersection in the capital on Friday afternoon.
Following Friday prayers, Inquilab Mancha leaders and activists staged a protest march from the Central Mosque of Dhaka University. Upon reaching Shahbagh Mor, they took positions and began a public assembly. Since December 26, the organization has been holding continuous programs at Shahbagh demanding justice for Hadi’s murder. After announcing the online program titled “Saluting Our Cultural Hero” on Monday, the group resumed its sit-in at Shahbagh on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, Abdullah Al Jaber said: “We had given the government 30 working days, of which 22 days remain. If the government fails to complete the trial process within this period, we will no longer want to see it in power. After 30 working days, we will launch a one-phase movement to topple the government.”
He further demanded that by January 7, not only the killers but also all those who provided support behind the murder must be identified and charges filed in court.
Questioning the progress of the investigation, Jaber said: “Though 21 days have passed since Hadi was shot, the government shows no willingness to arrest the main killers. The DMP Commissioner claimed that the main suspect was arrested in Meghalaya, but the Meghalaya police denied this. The government is misleading the public with contradictory information.” He added that those arrested so far are primarily family members of the accused, not the actual perpetrators.
Inquilab Mancha also announced that on Saturday, it will reach out to all pro-Bangladesh political parties and cultural organizations, seeking their cooperation in ensuring justice for Hadi. The group pledged to continue its struggle on the streets.
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, a well-known figure of the July uprising, had declared his independent candidacy for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election from Dhaka-8. On December 12, he was critically injured after being shot in the Purana Paltan area of the capital. After treatment at Dhaka Medical and Evercare Hospitals, his condition deteriorated, and he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15. He died there on December 18 while undergoing treatment.
