A Lotto showroom director was abducted at gunpoint and later killed in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra, police said on Tuesday.
The victim, Pintu Akand, 37, was taken by a group of armed assailants from a Lotto showroom at Khondaker Market in the SIO Office Bus Stand area on Monday night. His body was recovered around 11:00am yesterday from inside a microbus parked beside a road in Kumarpur village under Nashratpur Union of neighbouring Adamdighi upazila.
Police recovered the body, seized the microbus and detained three people, including the driver, for questioning.
Bogra Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) Ataur Rahman said the motive behind the killing could not be confirmed immediately. “The matter is under investigation,” he said.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants arrived at the showroom in a microbus around 9:10pm on Monday, held Pintu at gunpoint and forcibly took him away, triggering panic among local traders.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim may have been strangled to death inside the microbus following the abduction, possibly over previous enmity or a financial dispute. After the killing, the assailants reportedly left the vehicle in Adamdighi and fled.
Officer-in-Charge of Dupchanchia Police Station Afzal Hossain said the body was sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue in Bogra for autopsy. He added that the detained individuals are being interrogated and CCTV footage is being examined as part of the investigation.
