The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has repatriated Jahangir Alam, a Bangladeshi citizen who fell ill while detained at Pekan Nanas Camp in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, at the government’s expense.
Jahangir returned to Bangladesh on Friday under the commission’s arrangement, the High Commission said in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, officials from the High Commission noticed Jahangir Alam’s condition during a routine visit to the detention camp.
Following a public appeal on the commission’s Facebook page for information about him, details were received from five districts. After verification, his family was located in Narsingdi. The commission then arranged his return home and ensured his reunion with his family at no cost.
The High Commission added that Jahangir Alam arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 10pm on Friday.
His family members became emotional upon seeing him and expressed gratitude to the authorities.
The High Commission expressed hope that Jahangir Alam will recover soon with the care and love of his family.
