Lieutenant General Md Mainur Rahman, general officer commanding (GOC) of the Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC) at Army Headquarters, has said that like the people of the country, the army is also expecting a free, fair, and festive election to be held on time, after which it will return to the barracks.

He made the comments at a press briefing on behalf of the Bangladesh Army, held at Mess Alpha in Dhaka Cantonment on Wednesday afternoon.

Lieutenant General Mainur said: “We hope the election will bring stability to the country and that the law and order situation will gradually improve. The army will return to the barracks after the election.”

“We have been outside the barracks for the past 15 months. If we need to remain in the field longer after the election, it will hamper our training activities,” said the GOC of ARTDOC.

He added that the army is making preparations for the election in line with the government’s election roadmap.
