The main office of Bangla daily Prothom Alo in Kawran Bazar of the capital came under attack, vandalism, and arson late Thursday night.
According to reports, after news of the death of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi spread, a group of people marched from Shahbagh towards Kawran Bazar. Upon reaching the Prothom Alo office, they surrounded the building and staged a protest. Police present at the scene attempted to calm the protesters, but were unable to control the situation.
The attack began around 11:45pm. Protesters, reportedly carrying sticks and rods, vandalized the office, breaking most of its window panes. Around midnight, some protesters entered the office, removing tables, chairs, and important documents, which they set on fire in the street.
A Prothom Alo journalist said many reporters and staff remain trapped inside the office, with extreme tension prevailing in the area.
Law enforcement authorities are working to bring the situation under control.
