Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), on Saturday alleged that the Awami League and India may have been involved in the attempted killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha.

He made the remarks while briefing journalists after a meeting with the chief adviser at Jamuna, which was also attended by leaders of three political parties and members of Hadi’s family, including his mother.

Nahid claimed that the Awami League is carrying out anti-Bangladesh activities from Delhi with India’s backing and said the party is re-emerging across administration, police, media, and universities. “Unless the Awami League issue is resolved comprehensively in society and politics, none of us will be safe,” he said.

He urged the authorities to arrest Awami League-linked criminals and take steps to hold India accountable. Nahid also called on anti-fascist forces in institutions such as the judiciary and universities to unite and resist the Awami League’s presence.

Islam further alleged that efforts are underway to normalise the Awami League’s return to politics through media narratives, secret meetings at universities, and appearances of party-aligned intellectuals on talk shows. “This is a planned effort to rehabilitate the Awami League in politics,” he added.

He said there was consensus among the parties present at the meeting on the need to confront such challenges collectively and maintain a united anti-fascist national front.
