The long-awaited agreement on the “deployment of personnel from the Bangladesh Armed Forces to the Qatar Armed Forces” was signed on Sunday, in Doha, Qatar.

The agreement was signed by the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division of Bangladesh Lt Gen SM Kamrul Hassan and the Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces Lt Gen (Pilot) Jassim bin Mohammed Al Mannai, said a press release issued on Sunday.

Bangladesh’s ambassador to Qatar, Mohammad Hazrat Ali Khan, delegation members, and relevant embassy officials were also present at the ceremony.

Under this agreement, members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces will be able to serve on deputation in the Qatar Armed Forces.

Initially, approximately 800 personnel will be deployed to Qatar, with the possibility of increasing the number in the future. The deputed personnel will be appointed for an initial period of three years, which may be extended up to six years based on satisfactory performance.

The agreement opens a new avenue for deploying skilled personnel to the Qatar Armed Forces and is expected to elevate bilateral relations between the two countries to new heights. In addition, Bangladeshi personnel will benefit financially, and the Bangladesh government will earn a significant amount of foreign currency.

During this visit, the principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division will also hold discussions with senior officials of the Qatar government, the Qatar Armed Forces, and individuals involved in the defense industry on various issues of mutual interest.

Notably, from April 21–25 2025, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus visited Qatar to attend the “Earthna” conference. During that visit, he held discussions with key leaders of the Qatar government on a range of bilateral issues.

His successful diplomatic engagement played a crucial role in expediting the signing of this agreement between the Bangladesh and Qatar Armed Forces.
