Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Tauhid Hossain has dismissed reports by Indian media claiming that Hafiz Saeed, chief of Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, used Bangladeshi soil to plan an attack in India.
Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday evening, Tauhid Hossain said: “No matter what happens, the media will try to blame us. But there is no reason to believe this. No sensible person would.”
On another question, he said the United Nations has not commented on the letter sent by the Awami League.
Asked about potential US sanctions if Bangladesh buys arms from China, the adviser said: “We are not leaning toward anyone. We maintain balanced relations with all, and we will continue to do so. I do not think we will face any sanctions.”
The remarks came after international media reported on Monday that at least eight people were killed and many injured in a vehicle explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort.
Following the blast, heightened security measures have been imposed across India.
