A young man, Mahbul Hossain, 40, was killed on Saturday in Kala village of Jhenaidah Sadar upazila following a clash over a land dispute. He died while undergoing treatment at Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, and his body has been kept in the hospital morgue. Mahbul Hossain was the son of Sabdar Biswas of Kala village and had recently returned home from working abroad in Cambodia.
Local Union Parishad member Alam Mia said that a meeting with elders from both sides had been held late Friday night to resolve the land dispute. The issue was supposed to be settled on Saturday, but the clash occurred before any resolution.
Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, said that the conflict over the land lease led to the fatal attack. The body has been sent to the hospital morgue, and no formal complaint has yet been filed.
