A mobile court conducted an operation in the Chawkbazar area of Dhaka city at 11am on Thursday.
Md. Abu Hasan, Legal Officer, RAB Headquarters, Executive Magistrate Faizunesha Akhter, Monitoring and Enforcement Wing, Department of Environment, and RAB-10 conducted the drive in collaboration with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
During the operation, they found evidence of sales of banned polythene without BSTI approval. Later, the mobile court fined three traders for selling banned polythene.
Md. Jasim was fined Tk 1,50,000, Md. Alamin was fined Tk 1,00,000 and Babul was fined Tk 1,00,000. During the operation, a large amount of banned polythene was seized and the establishments were sealed off.
Initial investigations revealed that the traders have been harming the environment by selling banned polythene for a long time. Necessary action has been taken against them under the relevant law.
Regular operations against such illegal activities will continue in the future. The drive will also continue against banned polythene in the public interest.
