The BNP has expressed sincere regret over the inconvenience and suffering caused to the general public due to the massive gathering during the return and reception of the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman after 17 years in exile.
The party described the disruption to normal life in the capital as “unintended,” according to a BNP press release signed by senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday.
Tarique Rahman returned home with his family on Thursday after 17 years. To welcome him, hundreds of thousands of people from across the country gathered in Dhaka, effectively turning the capital into a sea of people, the press release said.
BNP said it was deeply concerned that the huge turnout caused hardship and disruption to normal public life and expressed heartfelt apologies for the unintended inconvenience.
“BNP sincerely apologizes for this unexpected hardship and inconvenience,” the statement added.
