A moving bus caught fire in Gazipur, burning nearly 80% of the vehicle.
The incident occurred around 8pm on Saturday on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway, in the Hariken area under Gacha police station.
Iqbal Hasan, senior station officer of the Modern Fire Service at Gazipur Chourasta, said that upon receiving the news, two fire service units reached the scene and managed to control the fire after about 20 minutes. No casualties have been reported.
Eyewitness Babul Hossain said: “Around 10–12 of us were standing a little distance away. Suddenly, I saw the bus engine catch fire. There were about 10 passengers inside the bus, and they all got out safely. Later, fire service personnel arrived and brought the fire under control. The bus driver and assistant have not been found yet.”
Mohammad Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gacha police station under Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), stated that a mechanical fault caused the fire, which burned nearly 80 percent of the bus.
The bus was traveling from Gazipur to Dhaka when the fire broke out in the Hariken area.
