A case has been filed with Dhanmondi Model Police Station in the capital over the attack, vandalism, arson, and looting at the cultural institution Chhayanaut. The case names 300 to 350 unidentified individuals as accused.
The matter was confirmed by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam of Dhanmondi Model Police Station on Sunday.
He said the case was filed on Saturday night, with Chhayanaut’s Chief Manager Dulal Ghosh acting as the plaintiff.
According to Chhayanaut authorities, after news of the death of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi spread, a group of miscreants entered the Chhayanaut building in Dhanmondi on the night of Thursday. They vandalized CCTV cameras, furniture, tabla, harmonium, violin, and extensively damaged several rooms, in addition to setting parts of the building on fire. The exact amount of financial loss could not be determined immediately.
The following day, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Adviser to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of the interim government, visited Chhayanaut. After reviewing CCTV footage, he assured that those involved would be brought to justice.
It is worth noting that after news of Osman Hadi’s death spread on Thursday night, incidents of attacks, vandalism, and arson took place at The Daily Star, Prothom Alo, and the Chhayanaut building.
