A chase and counter-chase between police and a crowd is underway at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka.

The confrontation erupted on Monday after a group attempted to block the entry of two bulldozers brought by students of Dhaka College.

Police have since fired sound grenades to disperse the crowd, while military personnel are also stationed at the scene.

Abdul Kaiyum, operations officer of Dhanmondi police station, told Dhaka Tribune: “Students of Dhaka College have brought two bulldozers to Dhanmondi 32. They are announcing over loudspeakers that they will demolish the Dhanmondi 32 house after the verdict is delivered.”

He added that the group was stopped on the main road and not allowed to enter the restricted area, where police are trying to push them back.

Crowds had gathered at the site ahead of the verdict in the crimes against humanity case against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina over crimes committed during the July movement.

Bangladesh Television (BTV) is broadcasting the proceedings live from the courtroom of International Crimes Tribunal–1, where a three-member bench led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mojumdar is delivering the verdict.
