Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Sunday demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of all those involved in the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, while also urging authorities to ensure the security of participants in the anti-fascist movement and the mass uprising.
The demands were conveyed in a memorandum submitted to the home affairs adviser by JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.
Earlier in the afternoon, around 4pm, JCD leaders and activists led a protest march from the Central Shaheed Minar to the Ministry of Home Affairs, demanding justice for the killing of Osman Hadi. The procession was stopped by police at Shikkha Odhikar Chattar. Later, a five-member delegation, led by the JCD president and general secretary, entered the Secretariat and handed over the memorandum to the home affairs adviser.
In the memorandum, JCD described Shaheed Osman bin Hadi as an uncompromising young leader and a pioneer of the anti-fascist cultural struggle. It alleged that he was brutally murdered as part of a planned conspiracy by fascist forces. The memorandum also pointed to a clear lack of effective initiatives, competence, and sincerity on the part of the authorities in preventing the preparations and conspiracy leading to his killing.
The memorandum further stated that despite a considerable period having elapsed since the incident, no visible progress has been made in arresting either the perpetrators or the masterminds behind the murder, raising deep concern among JCD leaders and activists. The killing, it said, was not merely the loss of an individual life. It was a dangerous attempt to silence anti-fascist voices, posing a serious threat to democratic movements and freedom of expression.
It also highlighted that students, youths, and cultural activists involved in the anti-fascist movement and the mass uprising are currently facing extreme insecurity.
Against this backdrop, JCD outlined four key demands:
- Immediate identification, arrest, and exemplary trial of all those directly and indirectly involved in the killing, including perpetrators, planners, and their patrons.
- Establishment of an impartial investigation into the conspiracy behind the murder and the negligence of responsible authorities.
- Adoption of effective state measures to ensure the safety of all political, social, and cultural activists participating in the anti-fascist movement and the mass uprising.
- Strengthening the accountability and capacity of intelligence agencies and law enforcement bodies to prevent such political killings in the future.
JCD leaders emphasized that ensuring the rule of law and citizens’ security is a fundamental responsibility of the state. They added that the swift implementation of their demands would serve as a minimum mark of respect for the sacrifice of Shaheed Osman bin Hadi and help restore public confidence.
