Voting for the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Executive Committee election is underway in a festive atmosphere, with members casting ballots for their preferred candidates on Sunday.

Polling began at 9am at the Nasrul Hamid Auditorium at the DRU premises in Segunbagicha and will continue until 5pm.

This year’s election management committee is chaired by MA Aziz. A total of 1,952 members are eligible to vote.

Candidates by position

Four candidates are contesting for the post of president: Abu Saleh Akon, Md Rokon-uz-Zaman, Mursalin Nomani, and Touhidul Islam Mintu.

For vice-president, the candidates are Halim Mohammad and Mehdi Azad Masum.

Three candidates — Mahmudul Hasan, Moinul Ahsan and Mainul Hasan Sohel — are vying for general secretary.

Md Zafar Iqbal has been elected unopposed as joint secretary.

Two candidates — Niaz Mahmud Sohel and Sakhawat Hossain Sumon — are competing for finance secretary.

Six candidates are in the race for organizing secretary: Akhtaruzzaman, MM Jasim, Mohammad Salim Ullah (Mezbah), Sayeed Shipon, Solaiman Salman, and Sushant Kumar Saha.

Md Rashim (Rashim Mollah) has been elected unopposed as office secretary.

For women’s affairs secretary, the contestants are Jannatul Ferdous Panna and Nargis Jui.

Mizan Chowdhury has been elected unopposed as publicity and publication secretary.

For information technology and training secretary, the contest is between Delwar Hossain Mohin and Mahmud Sohel.

Omar Faruk Rubel and Maksuda Lisa are contesting the post of sports secretary, while Md Monowar Hossain has been elected unopposed as cultural secretary.

For hospitality secretary, the candidates are Aminul Haque Bhuiyan and Md Salim Ullah (SU Selim).

Rafiq Mridha has been elected unopposed as welfare secretary.

Ten candidates are vying for seven executive member posts: Mohammad Naimuddin, Al-Amin Azad, Ali Azam, Md Mahfuzur Rahman, Md Abdul Alim, Md Akhter Hossain, Md Mazaharul Islam, Md Rezaur Rahim, Sumon Chowdhury, and Syed Akhter Siraji.
