Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali has issued orders to open fire if anyone attempts to set vehicles on fire or throw crude bombs (cocktails). He confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune around 8:30pm on Sunday.

DMP Commissioner Sajjat Ali said: “I have instructed officers to protect lives and property. Anyone who attacks people or police with cocktails or sets vehicles on fire will face lawful orders to shoot.”

Five days earlier, the Chattogram Metropolitan Police commissioner issued a similar directive, which sparked mixed reactions.

Monday has been set for the verdict in the case against Sheikh Hasina.

Ahead of the verdict, the Awami League announced a two-day “complete shutdown” program online from Sunday.

Since Saturday night, several crude bomb explosions and bus arson incidents have occurred in Dhaka and other parts of the country.
