Dhaka University will implement entry controls on the night of December 31, effectively closing the campus to the general public for 11 hours.
The university’s Estate Office announced Tuesday that all entry points—including Shahbagh, Palashi, Doel Chattar, Shibbari Crossing, Udayan School, and Nilkhet—will remain closed from 7 p.m. December 31 until 6 a.m. January 1, 2026.
Only individuals with valid DU ID cards—including students, teachers, officers, and staff—will be allowed entry. Family members of faculty and staff may enter by presenting the relevant employee’s ID card.
Vehicular access will also be restricted. Only cars displaying official DU stickers will be permitted, while emergency vehicles such as ambulances, doctors’ vehicles for patient visits, law enforcement, journalists’ transport, and fire service vehicles will be exempt.
The Estate Office urged all university members to carry their ID cards throughout the restricted period.
The announcement also banned fireworks, firecrackers, and sky lanterns on campus on December 31 night.
