Professor Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser to the interim government, said the national parliamentary election and referendum will be held on the same day, but eight parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, oppose this plan and have demanded the referendum be held before the election.
On Friday morning, at a press conference in Moghbazar, Dhaka, Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami expressed the position of these eight parties.
He said that on Friday, the eight parties will not carry out their previously scheduled programs in Dhaka.
During the press conference, Dr Syed Abdullah Md Taher also demanded the removal of three advisers. He added that he would not disclose their names immediately but would reveal them if no action is taken.
Taher mentioned that a meeting of the top leaders of the eight parties will be held on Monday, and a new program will be announced from there.
