Paris dressed up for Emily once again.
With champagne flutes raised and cameras flashing, Emily in Paris celebrated its highly anticipated fifth season at a glittering premiere at the iconic Grand Rex theatre, where the first two episodes were unveiled ahead of the global release on December 18.
Series creator Darren Star joined Lily Collins and the cast as the city embraced a show that has, in many ways, become part of its modern pop-cultural identity.
The celebration came hot on the heels of another Netflix milestone: co-CEO Ted Sarandos being awarded France’s prestigious Legion of Honour by President Emmanuel Macron — a moment that underlined just how deeply the series has embedded itself into France’s cultural conversation.
This season, Emily Cooper briefly trades Parisian cobblestones for Roman streets, sparking playful political banter on both sides of the Alps.
French President Emmanuel Macron and Rome mayor Roberto Gualtieri jokingly weighed in on the show’s temporary relocation, prompting Collins to laugh off the attention.
“I never expected in a million years we would be part of a European political love triangle,” she quipped, earning applause.
Fueling further intrigue, Darren Star teased more surprises after Brigitte Macron’s cameo in Season 4.
“I asked him,” Star said cryptically, hinting that even higher-profile appearances may lie ahead.
Sarandos reflected on the show’s unlikely rise during the pandemic, calling it a “comfort watch” that offered escapism when the world felt closed.
“Emily in Paris reminded people how much they loved Paris,” he said, adding that his wife Nicole remains one of the show’s biggest fans.
For Collins, Season 5 marks an emotional shift.
Emily is no longer chasing perfection but learning vulnerability.
“Letting go this season was really special,” she said, promising a deeper, more human chapter beneath the glamour.
Alongside Collins, familiar faces return — Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo and more — joined by new additions Bryan Greenberg, Michèle Laroque and Minnie Driver.
Rome may open the season, but Paris, as always, remains the heart of Emily’s world.
