A fire broke out at a Rohingya camp in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar on Sunday.

Fire service personnel are working to bring it under control.

Meanwhile, at least 20–25 houses have been burned. The incident occurred around 10:30pm on Sunday at Rohingya camps numbers 24–25 in Leda and Alikhali areas of Hnila Union.

Mohammad Alam, president of the Leda Development Management Committee in Teknaf, told Dhaka Tribune: “Preliminary reports suggest the fire started in the house of camp resident Fatema Akter due to a phone charger explosion. We have reached the site and are trying to control the fire. The fire service is also working on it.”

Syed Alam, a resident of Leda Rohingya Camp, said: “Suddenly, fire broke out in several houses in the camp. The fire service is working, and we are also trying to put out the fire ourselves. Meanwhile, more than 25–30 houses have already been burned. The fire is still not under control.”

Another camp resident, Nur Akm Md. Alam, said: “The fire started in a hut in our camp. Immediately, we all tried to control it together, but the intensity of the fire was high, so we could not contain it. Now the fire service is working to extinguish it.”

Regarding the incident, Additional DIG Muhammad Kawsar Sikder, commander of the 16th Armed Police Battalion (APBN), told Dhaka Tribune: “Houses in the area between Alikhali and Leda Rohingya camps caught fire. Everyone involved is working together to bring it under control. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.”
