Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined a food supplier in Tangail Tk 2 lakh for preparing food with stale and rotten meat and cooking food in an unhygienic environment.
Asaduzzaman Romel, assistant director of the district office of the directorate, led the drive conducted on Kandapara Road in the municipality area on Monday morning.
Sources said that Zahurul Islam regularly supplied food to Kacchi Khadok, Haji Biryani and Hanif Biryani outlets.
Assistant Director Asaduzzaman Romel said that the kitchen was filthy and filled with a foul smell, and leftover food was cooked again every day, posing a serious health risk to consumers.
He said the fine was collected on the spot for violating the Food Safety Act, and the food supplier was instructed to clean and sanitise the premises.
Members of the army, police and a sanitary inspector took part in the operation.
