A case has been filed against four unidentified police personnel over allegations of torture in police custody at Faridganj Police Station in Chandpur.

The case was lodged on December 27 by Md Khokon (39), an accused in a robbery case, following a court order. The information was confirmed on Tuesday by Fakhruddin Ahmed Swapan, Nazir of the Chandpur Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court.

Md Khokon, son of Shahjahan of Gupta Sardar Bari in Faridganj upazila, was arrested along with two others in connection with a robbery case filed on November 28 by Peyara Begum of Saishanga village. He has four other cases pending against him at the same police station.

On December 16, when investigation officer Md Humayun Kabir produced the accused before court and sought to record Khokon’s confessional statement under Section 164 of the CrPC, Khokon alleged that he had been tortured in police custody. The magistrate examined him, recorded the allegations, and ordered a case to be filed under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act. The court also directed a medical examination within 24 hours.

Medical reports from Chandpur Sadar Hospital noted multiple bruises on Khokon’s thighs, consistent with his claims. After a request for extended inquiry time was rejected, the case was formally registered on December 27.

Chandpur Superintendent of Police Md Rabiul Hasan said the case would be investigated and a report submitted to the court.
