Within just 24 hours, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has once again increased gold prices in the local market, this time by Tk4,188 per bhori.

With the latest adjustment, the price of 22-carat gold now stands at Tk2,08,471 per bhori (11.664 grams).

The new rates will come into effect from Wednesday, according to a Bajus press release issued on Tuesday night.

Bajus said the price hike was prompted by an increase in the price of pure gold (Tejabi gold) in the local market. Considering the overall situation, the association decided to revise the prices accordingly.

The new rates are:

  • 21-carat gold will cost Tk1,99,000 per bhori
  • 18-carat gold will cost Tk1,70,563 per bhori
  • Traditional gold will cost Tk1,41,858 per bhori

In addition to the base price, buyers must pay a 5% government VAT and a minimum 6% making charge fixed by Bajus. The making charge may vary depending on the jewellery’s design and quality.

Earlier on Monday, Bajus raised gold prices by Tk2,507 per bhori, setting the price of 22-carat gold at Tk2,04,283 per bhori, also effective from Wednesday.

With the latest revision, gold prices have been adjusted 75 times so far this year — increased 52 times and reduced 23 times.

Meanwhile, the price of silver remains unchanged, with 22-carat silver selling at Tk4,246 per bhori in the local market.
