The price of gold in the country has risen once again. Due to an increase in the international price of pure gold, the Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (Bajus) has set new rates.
The decision was made on Monday during a meeting of Bajus’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring. The new prices will come into effect nationwide from Tuesday.
Bajus said that the price of 22-carat hallmark gold is now Tk17,514 per gram, which equates to Tk204,295 per bhori, 21-carat gold is priced at Tk16,718 per gram, or Tk195,004 per bhori and 18-carat gold costs Tk14,330 per gram, equivalent to Tk167,140 per bhori.
Under the traditional method, gold is priced at Tk11,912 per gram, or Tk138,953 per bhori.
In addition, Bajus has also revised silver prices. The price of 22-carat silver is now Tk364 per gram, or Tk4,245 per bhori.
The price of 21-carat silver is Tk347, 18-carat silver Tk298, and traditional-method silver Tk223 per gram.
According to the Bajus notice, these new prices will remain in effect until further notice. The sale price of gold and silver must include the government-set 5% VAT, plus a minimum 6% labour charge as determined by Bajus. Labour charges may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewellery.
The notice, signed by Masudur Rahman, chairman of the Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring, urges transparency in the market and calls for price stability.
