Gopalganj University of Science and Technology has awarded scholarships to 272 underprivileged and meritorious students from 33 departments.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Hossain Uddin Shekhar handed over the scholarship cheques from his office on Monday. Heads of departments received the cheques on behalf of the students.

Each student received Tk 2,500, with a total of Tk 680,000 distributed as scholarships. It may be mentioned that last year the university administration provided scholarships amounting to Tk 3.3 million.

At the event, organized by the Student Counselling and Guidance Office, the Vice-Chancellor instructed that the scholarship money be delivered to the students as soon as possible.

He said, “Over the past year, we have tried our best for the development of the university. During this time, we have at least been able to improve academic standards. Infrastructure development will also be carried out when funds are available. However, nothing can run smoothly without mutual cooperation. So everyone’s support is needed to move the university forward.”

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Sohel Hasan said, “Although we are providing only a small amount of support to the students, we are trying our best within our capacity to maintain a good learning environment, and to encourage teachers and students in education and research.”

Treasurer Professor Dr Mohammad Nazmul Ahsan and deans of various faculties were also present at the programme.
