Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Vice President Shadik Kayem said on Monday that they would only be able to express true satisfaction once the death sentence of Sheikh Hasina is fully implemented.

“She must be brought back immediately,” he added.

Kayem made the comments to reporters following the verdict at International Crimes Tribunal-1 at around noon.

He said: “The families of the martyrs and the student community are satisfied with the verdict. However, we cannot truly be happy until the sentence is enforced. It is the government’s responsibility to take action in this regard.”

The tribunal announced the death sentence for Sheikh Hasina in connection with crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising.

In the same case, the tribunal sentenced former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun—who testified as a state approver—to five years’ imprisonment.
