A Rajshahi court today sentenced a headmaster of a high school to life term in prison in a case over the rape of an SSC examinee after abduction more than three years back in Natore.

Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Md Mahiduzzaman also sentenced him to 14 years of jail for abduction, said the court’s public prosecutor Munshi Abul Kalam Azad.

The convict is Firoz Ahmed, headmaster of Mariam Memorial Girls’ School in Natore.

Prosecutor Azad said the victim was standing near the main gate of the school after her practical exam on October 1, 2022.

The teacher took her to a relative’s house in Rajshahi on the pretext of promising to help her perform well in the practical exam.

He kept her confined there and raped several times threatening to kill her if disclose this matter, the prosecutor said.

At night on that day, the victim’s mother filed a case accusing three people including the teacher under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Shortly after the incident, members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested him and handed over to police who later pressed chargesheet against the trio.

Two were acquitted during charge framing.
