International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam has urged the court to impose the maximum sentence on former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in the case of crimes against humanity linked to the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

He made the remarks at the tribunal premises on Thursday in response to journalists’ questions, following the announcement of the verdict date in Sheikh Hasina’s case.

“We have appealed to the court for the maximum sentence for the accused. The court will exercise its discretion, but our prayer is that they be punished to the fullest extent of the law for this crime,” he said.

Earlier, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 set November 17 for the verdict in the case against Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.

The three-member tribunal, headed by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mazumder, issued the order at 12:09pm. Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam and other prosecution officials were present, while state-appointed lawyer Md Amir Hossain represented the accused.
