Inqilab Mancha held a rally on Saturday in protest against the shooting of its spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, who is also a prospective independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
Titled “Aggrieved Citizens’ Rally and Mass Resistance,” the program took place in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh in Dhaka in the afternoon.
At the rally, Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer (south) of National Citizen Party (NCP), warned that the “throne of Delhi” would be set ablaze in Bangladesh. “The bullet did not just pass through Osman Hadi’s head; it passed through the conscience of every person in Bangladesh. Those who have worked in favor of the Awami League over the past 17 years are now resurfacing under different identities—as talk-show intellectuals, theatre activists, or cultural workers,” he said.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam added: “Delhi’s dominance will not be allowed to enter Bangladesh through any individual, institution, professional group, or intellectual. The throne of Delhi will be burned in this country.”
Hasnat further cautioned that “there will be no place for fascists in Bangladesh, whatever name they use. Those attempting to regroup in Gulshan under the banner of the Jatiya Party will not be given an inch of space at a time when Osman Hadi’s blood has been shed.” He also urged political unity, stating: “Whatever ideology you follow, we must unite at one point. Political parties have become bankrupt in pursuit of their own interests. They are now engaging in illicit relationships with the Awami League.”
Leaders and activists from various political parties, including AB Party Secretary General Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuaad, attended the rally.
