The interim government has urged everyone to refrain from any kind of illegal or unauthorized public gatherings or movements after the announcement of the schedule for the upcoming national parliamentary election.
In this context, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said: “We are now in an election-focused period. Therefore, whatever demands people may have—everyone is being requested to present them to the post-election government.”
He said this on Tuesday afternoon, following a meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs held under the direction of the chief adviser, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.
After the election schedule was announced, the armed forces along with all other law enforcement agencies began working to ensure a proper electoral environment. Nearly nine hundred thousand members of the armed forces and other security agencies will be deployed to maintain law and order across the country. A record number—150,000 police officers—have already received election-related training to help conduct a fair election.
From the announcement of the schedule until Election Day, any illegal or unauthorized public gatherings or movements that cause public inconvenience will be strictly controlled. Those who participate in such unlawful assemblies will be brought under the law.
The home affairs adviser added: “We know that many people have legitimate demands. Over the past year and a half, more than two thousand protests have been organized, through which demonstrators presented their demands to the interim government. The government has always responded to legitimate demands and has tried to reach solutions through dialogue with the protesters.”
He further said: “We hope that during this period, no one will create tension or disrupt the normal environment in the name of placing demands.”
