The Jamuna Future Park branch of the Mobile Business Community Bangladesh (MBCB) has announced an indefinite closure of several mobile markets across the country, including Jamuna Future Park itself, starting Tuesday, as mobile traders—having received no response from the government regarding the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR). They have taken a firm stance.
According to leaders of the organization, they have long urged the government to hold discussions with traders to resolve the complications arising from NEIR, but no initiative has been taken.
As a result, small and medium-scale traders are facing severe uncertainty, compelling them to decide on shutting down their shops.
As per the announcement, a human chain will be formed in front of Jamuna Future Park on Tuesday, at 1pm, with all shops remaining closed.
Traders participating in the demonstration will assess the situation and announce further programs for Wednesday, the leaders said.
The traders said that inconsistencies in the implementation of NEIR have created various complications in selling legally imported mobile phones in the market, causing significant losses to hundreds of shop owners. They have urged the government to intervene urgently to resolve the matter.
The decision to close mobile markets has raised concerns about potential inconvenience for a large number of customers and traders. The traders warned their movement will continue until their demands are met.
