A meeting of the Jatiya Party was disrupted in Naogaon on Tuesday after activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement alleged it was aimed at destabilizing the country.
The incident occurred around 1:30pm at the office of district convener Advocate Tofazzal Hossain in the Upokil Para area. Sensing the meeting, student activists rushed to the spot, chanted slogans and forced Jatiya Party leaders and activists to flee.
The protesters later vandalised photographs of party founder Hussain Muhammad Ershad and party symbols, including the plough emblem, and set them on fire.
Leaders of the student movement, including Fazle Rabbi and others, were present during the incident. Fazle Rabbi claimed the party was holding a “secret meeting” to destabilise the district.
Attempts to contact Advocate Tofazzal Hossain for comments were unsuccessful as he did not respond to repeated phone calls.
