Bangladesh’s mixed doubles pair Md Javed Ahmed and Khoy Khoy Marma claimed the silver medal in table tennis at the Islamic Solidarity Games 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday.
The Bangladeshi duo, who made history by reaching the final earlier in the day, went down 0–3 (5–11, 8–11, 6–11) to Turkey’s Sibel Altinkaya and İbrahim Gündüz in a one-sided title decider that lasted just over 14 minutes.
Javed and Khoy Khoy had earlier defeated Bahrain’s Rashed and Mohamed Kenda 3–1 (13–11, 7–11, 12–10, 11–3) in the semifinals to secure at least a silver medal — Bangladesh’s second medal in the ongoing Games after weightlifter Marjia Akter Ekra bagged bronze earlier.
The Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation had earlier announced a Tk 50,000 reward for each of the two players for reaching the final, which will be doubled if they win gold.
Despite the loss, the silver marks a remarkable achievement for Bangladesh table tennis, underlining the team’s growing presence on the international stage.
