A local Jubo Dal leader was shot dead in Dhaka’s Pallabi area on Monday evening after three assailants opened fire at close range, police said.

The victim, identified as Golam Kibria, was gunned down in the C Block area behind Mirpur Pallabi Police Station.

Locals rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mofizur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying Kibria was a leader of the Jubo Dal unit under Pallabi Police Station.

“We are investigating the motive and trying to identify who fired the shots,” he said.

According to police, Kibria was sitting inside a shop in Pallabi Section-12 when three men on a motorcycle arrived.

The attackers entered the shop, held Kibria at gunpoint and fired seven shots at his head, chest and back before fleeing the scene.

Officers later recovered seven empty shell casings from the spot.

Police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the targeted killing.
