The nomination paper of Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, has been cancelled in the Bogra-2 (Shibganj) constituency following scrutiny by the returning officer on Friday.

Also rejected were the nomination papers of Shariful Islam Jinnah, a former MP and district president of the Jatiya Party, Selim Sarker of Gonodhikar Parishad, and independent candidate Rezaul Karim Talu.

The decision was announced around 3:30 pm by Bogra Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Toufiqur Rahman after the scrutiny process.

The returning officer said Manna’s nomination was cancelled due to discrepancies in the information provided in his affidavit. Jinnah’s nomination was rejected for failing to submit the asset declaration form with his affidavit.

A total of seven candidates had submitted nomination papers in the Bogra-2 (Shibganj) constituency.

The scrutiny process began Friday morning at the returning officer’s conference room. Candidates have been advised to file appeals if they object to the decision.

The valid candidates in the constituency are Mir Shahe Alam of the BNP, Maulana Shahadatuzzaman of Jamaat-e-Islami, and Jamal Uddin of Islami Andolon Bangladesh.
