A 36-year-old man, Zillur Rahman, has been arrested in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi on charges of raping a young woman after promising marriage. Members of RAB-5 detained him on Tuesday afternoon in the Kathalbariya area. Zillur hails from Bamuja village in Kahalu upazila of Bogra. According to a RAB press release issued on Wednesday, Zillur met the victim through TikTok about three months ago. Their relationship developed online, and he later invited her to Ishwardi in Pabna, where he allegedly raped her several times between 9 and 13 October under false promises of marriage.
RAB said that when the woman later asked about marriage, the man tricked her by saying he would take her to the marriage registrar’s office but fled with her mobile phone and bag instead. The victim later filed a rape case with Ishwardi Police Station. After the case was filed, RAB launched an investigation and, based on intelligence, arrested him on Tuesday. He has been handed over to the local police for legal action.
