The 145th birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani was observed in Tangail with various programmes. Representatives of Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) paid glowing tributes to Bhashani at 9am on Friday by placing wreaths at his mausoleum at Santosh in Tangail. After placing wreaths, prayers and munajat were offered.
Present on the occasion were Professor Dr Mohammad Matiur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Dr Md Abu Zubair, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Dr Md Imam Hossain, Proctor, Professor Dr Sazzad Wahid, Acting Registrar along with teachers, students, officers and staff from various departments.
Later, separate wreaths were placed by members of Maulana Bhashani’s family, the Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP Bhashani), the Bhashani Parishad and several institutions located on the university campus.
Additionally, after Jummah prayers, a special prayer session was held at the university’s Central Jame Mosque.
Maulana Bhashani was born on 12 December 1880 in Dhangora, Sirajganj. He spent much of his life in Santosh, Tangail. He passed away on 17 November at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and was later laid to rest in Santosh.
