The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has cancelled all leaves for its officials and employees until further notice.

The order, signed by DMTCL Director (Administration) AKM Khairul Alam on Sunday, states that the decision takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further instruction.

So, no employee working at the metro rail headquarters, depots, stations, or any of DMTCL’s ongoing projects will be allowed to take leave.

The office order did not specify any reason for the cancellation.

However, a DMTCL official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the move was taken in light of the ongoing political situation and related programs in the capital.

“Since all metro rail facilities are designated as Key Point Installations (KPIs), the measure has been adopted as a precaution to strengthen overall security,” the official said.

Sources said two separate letters were issued regarding the matter— one suspending leave for staff assigned to special security duties, and another cancelling leave for all DMTCL officials and employees.
