A motorcyclist named Khandaker Saidur Rahman was killed after being hit by a truck in Dhaka’s Tejgaon industrial area.
He worked as a merchandiser at a private company.
The accident occurred around 12:15am on Monday near the Southern Pump area in Tejgaon. Pedestrians rescued the critically injured Saidur and took him to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) emergency unit around 1:45am, where doctors declared him dead.
Saidur’s brother, Mostafizur Rahman, said: “He was returning home on his motorcycle when a truck hit him. Passersby took him to the hospital, but he could not be saved.”
He added that one of Saidur’s colleagues, who was riding on the back of the motorcycle, sustained minor injuries but was otherwise unharmed.
Sub-Inspector Abdullah Al Maruf of Tejgaon Industrial Area police station said: “The body has been handed over to the family without an autopsy, as per their written request. The truck has been seized, but the driver fled the scene. Efforts are underway to arrest him.”
The deceased, Khandaker Saidur Rahman, was a resident of Alabdirtek, Baulia area, under Pallabi police station in Dhaka. His father’s name is Khandaker Mofazzal Haidar.
Police said the Tejgaon Industrial Area police station is investigating the incident and continuing operations to identify and arrest the driver.
