The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) found 832 bhori of gold ornaments after breaking into two vaults registered under the name of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina at the main branch of Agrani Bank in the capital.
The two vaults were opened on Tuesday (November 25) following the policies of Bangladesh Bank.
A CIC official said that a total of 832 bhori in gold were recovered after opening the two vaults numbered 751 and 753 in the principal branch.
The process was completed in accordance with the relevant rules and regulations of Bangladesh Bank, he added.
Earlier, on September 17, based on information received from confidential sources, two lockers were seized in a raid at the main branch of Agrani Bank located in Dilkusha in the capital.
NBR sources said that lockers numbered 751 and 753 are in the name of Sheikh Hasina in the former local office of the bank. The two lockers were seized on suspicion of tax evasion and financial irregularities that day.
On the same day, another vault kept in the name of Sheikh Hasina at a branch of Pubali Bank was opened. However, no gold ornaments or anything valuable were found there, the official said.
On September 10, NBR detectives seized a locker (number 128) belonging to Sheikh Hasina at the Motijheel corporate branch of Pubali Bank located in Sena Kalyan Bhaban.
That day, two of her bank accounts were also found at the same branch. One of them had a fixed deposit (FDR) of about Tk12 lakh, and the other had Tk44 lakh.
