Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said that despite travelling to the United Kingdom, there is no opportunity during this visit to meet BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

He made the remarks on Thursday in response to a question at a press conference held at a venue in East London.

Replying to a question, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said he travelled to London for only one day. When asked whether he would have met Tarique Rahman if time had permitted, he said that as there was no opportunity for such a meeting, he would not respond to the question.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman has made several visits to the United Kingdom since the fall of the then ruling Awami League government on August 5, 2024. He said his current visit to London was aimed at holding meetings with senior British government officials.

Speaking about the widely discussed upcoming national election in Bangladesh, he said the election would be held on time and there was no scope for any delay.

After completing his scheduled engagements in London, Dr Shafiqur Rahman is expected to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. He is scheduled to return home on December 21.
