The condition of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a prospective independent candidate in the upcoming election, slightly deteriorated according to preliminary tests after he reached Singapore, but has since stabilized.
The update was shared on Inqilab Mancha’s verified Facebook page on Monday evening, quoting Hadi’s brother, who traveled with him. Hadi is currently undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital.
The statement added that Hadi will require another surgery, but his physical condition is not yet suitable for the procedure.
Earlier on Monday, an air ambulance equipped with full emergency facilities for a critical patient departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, carrying Hadi to Singapore for advanced treatment. He was shot in the head from close range in an assassination attempt last Friday.
The decision to send Hadi abroad for treatment was taken on Sunday.
Hadi was shot after Jummah prayers on Bijoynagar Box Culvert Road in the capital. He was initially rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with bullet injuries and was later shifted to Evercare Hospital.
Following the incident, law enforcement agencies launched a series of operations to identify and arrest those involved.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police earlier said the main accused, Faisal Karim Masud, alias Daud Khan, is a Chhatra League activist with a criminal record. Police believe he crossed the border into India with another suspect linked to the Awami League, who allegedly drove the motorcycle from which Faisal, riding pillion, shot Hadi.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a close aide of the main accused. RAB and police have earlier arrested eight suspects for their alleged roles in aiding the shooter.
