Dr Shafiqur Rahman, ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, said that the people of the country no longer desire a biased government and old politics.

“They seek change, reform, and aspire to see a new Bangladesh”, he said.

He emphasized that the old formulas will no longer suffice for the new Bangladesh and the nation must progress with new approaches. In this context, he noted, the public no longer wishes to witness a government biased in favor of any particular party.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman made these remarks on Friday at a student, youth and citizen assembly held at BRP Field in Bashantek, Dhaka-17 constituency.

He further said that the country’s student and youth community has expressed a desire for a new Bangladesh—one free from corruption and misgovernance, a humane nation.

“They aspire for an improved education system and meaningful employment opportunities after completing their studies, through which they can contribute to nation-building,” he said.

However, he observed, there is evident resistance to this change, possibly because it did not emerge under the leadership of certain individuals.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman highlighted that Jamaat-e-Islami has provided leadership and fought for 15 years against autocracy, enduring imprisonment, legal persecution, and displacement.

He underscored that despite these hardships, the party never abandoned the country.

He added that they remained steadfast, holding the nation close to their hearts, embracing imprisonment and sacrificing their lives, but never fleeing the land. He highlighted their commitment to the country, its soil, and its people has remained unwavering.
