Police on Sunday charged batons and used water cannons to disperse candidates of the 47th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination during a protest demanding rescheduling of the upcoming written test.

The protesters who passed the preliminary exam of the 47th BCS took position near the Bangladesh Public Service Commission gate around 12pm as part of their “Long March to PSC program” to press home their demand.

Witnesses said police charged with batons and used water cannons when the protesters refused to vacate the gate, leaving several examinees injured.

The candidates said they will continue their sit-in at the PSC gate until authorities announce a reasonable schedule that allows them sufficient time for preparation.
