Bangladesh’s Ram Krishna Saha secured sixth position in the qualification round of the Recurve Men’s event at the 24th Asian Archery Championships 2025 at the National Stadium, Dhaka on Sunday.
Ram Krishna scored a total of 668 points among 61 participants in the event.
It was a surprising feat for Ram Krishna, as Md Sagor Islam and Abdur Rahman Alif are ranked higher than him in the world standings.
Sagor scored 639 points to finish 38th, while Alif scored 637 to claim the 41st position.
Another Bangladeshi archer, Md Rakib Mia, finished 32nd with 647 points.
In the Women’s Recurve event, Sima Akter Shimu finished 24th in the qualification round with a score of 637, while Sonali Roy (623), Ety Khatun (610), and Monira Akter (606) placed 32nd, 37th, and 38th respectively among 51 archers.
The qualification rounds for the Men’s and Women’s Compound divisions were also held on the same day.
In the Women’s Compound event, Bonna Akter scored 693 to secure 12th place out of 38 archers. Kulsim Akter (688), Puspita Zaman (680), and Mithila Akter (662) finished 17th, 24th, and 32nd, respectively.
In the Men’s Compound event, Himu Bachhar took the 10th spot with a score of 704, while Mohammad Ashikuzzaman (687), Nawaz Ahmed Rakib (683), and Sohel Rana (679) finished 35th, 41st, and 45th, respectively, among 53 participants.
Ram Krishna’s sixth-place finish means he will receive a bye in the first two elimination rounds (1/48 and 1/24) and will compete directly in the 1/16 elimination round on Tuesday.
“We had some good moments and some not-so-good moments. A little disappointing overall, but what I want to highlight is definitely the good part — Bonna Akter did well, and in the men’s recurve singles, Ram Krishna Saha finished sixth,” said head coach Martin Frederick about the team’s performance.
“In the afternoon session, Himu Bachhar finished 10th — it’s good to be in the top 10. The women’s recurve squad is our weakest section, but Shimu performed well,” the coach added.
