Ducsu Vice President Shadik Kayem has reacted to the shooting of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha and hopeful independent candidate for Dhaka-8 in the upcoming election.
He said the attack on the candidate has raised concerns about the fairness of the election and the safety of candidates.
He made the comments on Friday in a statement sent to the media.
The statement noted that the shooting occurred the day after the schedule for the national election was announced, calling it a very ominous sign. It said fallen fascists have already issued various threats and carried out programs to disrupt the election. In this situation, the attack on the candidate has created serious concerns regarding the fairness of the election and the safety of candidates.
The statement also urged the interim government to immediately identify the shooters. It called on the authorities to uncover the political motives behind the attack and inform the nation. It further appealed to the government to ensure proper security measures for all candidates campaigning in the field, regardless of party affiliation.
