A wave of mourning has swept across social media following the death of BNP Chairperson and three-time former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia. She passed away while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital on Tuesday, at 6am.

A shadow of grief now prevails across the country. Alongside political leaders and citizens, celebrities from the entertainment industry have also been expressing their sorrow over the passing of the former prime minister.

Renowned musician Nagarbaul James has mourned her death as well. A post on James’s Facebook page read: “With deep sorrow and humble respect, we express our profound grief at the passing of Bangladesh’s elected former prime minister and national leader Begum Khaleda Zia (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). May Almighty Allah grant her the highest place in Jannatul Ferdous. Ameen. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved members of her family.”

Actor Shakib Khan shared a black-and-white photograph of Begum Khaleda Zia on Facebook. In the caption, he wrote: “I express my deep sorrow at the death of former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia. I pray for the forgiveness of her soul and extend my condolences to the bereaved family.”

Actress Jaya Ahsan, in her Facebook status, described Khaleda Zia’s departure as a loss for the country at a difficult time. She wrote: “Begum Khaleda Zia has departed at a time of great crisis. An election lies ahead, and people are waiting for democracy. The value of her presence was truly exceptional.”

Actor Siam Ahmed shared a black-and-white photograph of Begum Khaleda Zia and wrote in the caption: “Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun. I pray for the forgiveness of the soul of Begum Khaleda Zia.”

Many stars are viewing Begum Khaleda Zia’s death as the end of an era. Popular singer Kanak Chapa expressed deep grief by sharing a photograph, describing the passing as “the end of a chapter in the course of time.”

Actress Azmeri Haque Badhan paid her respects, saying, “Begum Khaleda Zia was an inseparable part of Bangladesh’s political history. Her leadership and public service have left a lasting impact on the country. I express my condolences to her bereaved family.”

In a condolence message, singer Baby Naznin said: “The people of Bangladesh will always feel the absence of a great leader like Begum Khaleda Zia. The suffering inflicted on her and the injustice done to her solely due to political vendetta will surely be judged by Almighty Allah. The sacrifices she made for the country and its people are unprecedented in political history.”

Film actress Apu Biswas wrote in tribute: “The eternal departure of Bangladesh’s first female prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia will remain a witness of time. The passing of such a distinguished woman will be forever remembered in the hearts of the people. Humble respect.”

Singer Putul Sajia Sultana shared childhood memories associated with Khaleda Zia while expressing her grief. In 2003, Putul secured first place in patriotic songs at Notun Kuri, when then prime minister Khaleda Zia handed the trophy to her. She wrote: “She proved wrong the idea that one needs only a long political lineage from birth to become prime minister. Through her own wisdom and confidence, she became the head of the country three times. Farewell, Honorable Madam. History will remember you.”

Actress Sadia Jahan Prova wrote: “Begum Khaleda Zia was a symbol of strength, patience, and leadership in Bangladesh. Despite enduring imprisonment and oppression, she never left the country—this is why she was known as the ‘uncompromising leader.’ Her contributions will remain indelible in history.”

Film actress Shobnom Bubly wrote: “Begum Khaleda Zia, the first female prime minister of Bangladesh. May her departed soul rest in eternal peace. Ameen.”

Sharing a photograph of Khaleda Zia, Hanif Sanket wrote: “With her death, the nation has lost a guardian. Her contributions to the welfare of the country and its people will remain unforgettable.”

Many more figures from the entertainment industry have expressed their condolences over Begum Khaleda Zia’s death. Among them are film actresses Nusrat Faria, Rafiath Rashid Mithila and filmmakers Ashfaque Nipun. Redoan Rony, along with several other prominent personalities from the entertainment sector, have also shared condolence messages on social media. In addition, actress Ashna Habib Bhabna, actor Arsh Khan, Pia Jannatul and many others have expressed their grief online and prayed for the forgiveness of her soul.
