Detectives of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested six more leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations in separate drives across the capital in the past 24 hours.
Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Muhammad Talebur Rahman said on Friday that the arrestees had been involved in sudden processions, crude bomb explosions, and attempts to destabilize law and order in the city. They were detained from different areas between Thursday and Friday morning.
The arrestees are: Md Shahadat Hossain, member of the central executive committee of Awami Matsyajibi League and sports secretary of Ward-27 of Dhaka North Jubo League; Md Khan Jahan Ali alias Kalu Patwari, three-time chairman of Chandra Union Parishad in Chandpur Sadar; Md Mashiur Rahman, assistant secretary of the central Chhatra League and former vice-president of Jagannath University Chhatra League; Kazi Foyez Ahmed, vice-president of Khulna’s Khalishpur Thana Awami League; Alim Al Tarif, deputy publication secretary of Dhaka South and employment secretary of Dhaka North Chhatra League; and Md Tipu Sultan, former joint general secretary of the central executive committee of Awami Matsyajibi League.
According to DMP, the arrests were made during raids conducted between Thursday evening and midnight in Tejgaon, Khilgaon, Agargaon, Bashundhara, Demra, and Lalbagh areas. Shahadat Hossain was arrested from Manipuripara under Tejgaon Police Station, Kalu Patwari from Nandipara Bridge area in Khilgaon, and Mashiur Rahman from West Agargaon by the DB-Lalbagh division.
Additionally, DB’s Cyber Division arrested Kazi Foyez Ahmed from Bashundhara, Tipu Sultan from Demra, and Alim Al Tarif from Lalbagh after midnight.
DB said legal action against the detainees is underway.
